Question: Why do people put their personal information and pictures on the internet (facebook idiots)?

I didn't know what facebook was until yesterday, yes I had heard about it, but I never really bothered to ask or research what it was. So, I'm legitimately curious - what is the point in putting up your real name and real photos on facebook? I can just google "Your first name here, Your last name here " and your facebook page will come up. Even if your profile is set to private, everyone can at least see you have a profile, a profile picture, and who your friends are, etc...

I was thinking the same thing. Most of their friends and relatives are on their page but what of their friends friends that may have been in prison. They can find out everything and hunt you down and kill you....or rob you...rape you....it isn't safe...and those stupid young girls with Provocative pictures. Haven't they been watching the news? What about human trafficking? D

Its called networking with friends. its a good way to keep in contact with people anywhere you go. lol, there are downsides to it though. *shrugs*

Yea.... my friends and i would find it fun and entertaining if someone stalked us down.... we don't get over detailed with the info we post.... but if someone wants to find you they're gonna do it rather you have a facebook or myspace or not....

Because it is increasingly difficult to keep track of all of our friends from all over the world. facebook lets us connect with each other in a way that is otherwise impossible, and to meet other people who share your interests. if you're that nervous about sharing personal information, you can always lie. the rest of us are a bit more trusting in the majority of facebook users not being absolute creepers who would actually try anythign with the small amount that is actually visible online.

When its in private they see your account but not your pictures or friends just your name. its social networking the whole point is to connect with friends and family online, i don't think its stupid unless you make all your information public and add several people you've never met

Mainly, so friends can find them. unfortunately there are a lot of cyber-criminals out there just waiting to grab some personal information so they can steal your credit card numbers and usurp your identity

Why? Have you got something to hide? Name and photo isn't exactly going to cause you any problems. I guess that some people really don't care what people know about them when you look at the sort of information you can easily find online.
