I'm trying to get my first home and I keep seeing stuff for gov. grants but I'm not finding anything...I really need help with the down payment.

There are several government programs. A few of the government programs are meant to assist people to stay in their homes by making their current mortgages affordable. There also is one to assist new home buyers by providing a $8,000 tax credit, but this is money that you get back after purchasing. It does not provide you with assistance in coming up with a down payment. For more information about the program see the attached article.
