Does the U.K. have the same cut throat collection agencies as the USA?
I was just curious if the U.K. has the same cut throat , deceiving practices followed by collection agencies here in the US , where they call you all the time, at work, at home during the night and they disguise themselves or wont tell you who they are until you tell them who you are, or the practice of coming in the middle of the night and taking your vehicle because you are late one time on a payment, or calling your relatives or family about you, or impersonation.? It is big business over here debt collection, just wanted to see if it is the same way over there?I have even heard that they will just take the money out of your bank account or paycheck
Is it costly for collection agencies to sue you? if no, what would take for them to really sue you?
Also, are they on commission? If no, why are their tactics so scary? Do they prey on the consumers' ignorance?
How do we stop collection agencies from calling our phone numbers that used to belong to someone else?
We have had our phone numbers since June when we moved, the numbers were new to us. The people who had the numbers before us, obviously didnt pay their bills. All day long we get calls from collection agencies. We have attempted to tell them that the people they are looking for do not live here and we dont even know who they are. But we keep getting calls. Most of the time, the people calling dont even listen to us, they hang up on us This is really annoying and we want it to stop. Please give us any information on how to make these people stop calling our phone numbersI should add that we have called back and left messages that the person they are calling for no longer has this phone number. Each time we have had to leave messages.
I keep having collection agencies call me looking for the people that used to live here. They only live a few
houses away and I keep telling all these companies that that person doesn't live here and I bought this house from him 2 years ago, and they always say they will take me off the list, but yet I continue to get calls. I am tempted to go give these numbers to them, but I don't want them knowing that I know they have bill collectors. This man is a home builder and he isn't selling any of his homes so I know they are already sad. I am tired of these people calling me though. What should I do???
When is it okay to hang up on someone?i'm not talking about telemarketers or collection agencies, but someone
you personally know.is it better to hang up on them or say something you may regret?
Do you think that these collection agencies would get better result if they were nicer to people instead of ?
being so rude and mean. Its so hard for folks right now couldn't they at least try to be nice to them and see what could be worked out.I had a company that did that for me and i had no trouble but some think there very very mean and i guess they have all most been to the point of tears because some collector tries to put them down so bad. What do you think or what have you experienced?
What do you think about collection agencies tactics?
Any examples ?
Collection Agency Craziness!!!?
My neighbor, who also happens to be a very good friend of mine, who is my age, has some debt. Don't we all.Last year, he was in the hospital for pneumonia for a week because he procrasticinated with going to the hospital because he didn t have insurance and was scared of the bills. Again, aren't we all.Well it seems the hospital attempted to get him to pay the bill but he refused. So they turned it over to a collection agency. To my understanding, this is a new collection agency with new tactics never seen before. They have two in house attorneys plus a few licensed private investigators. Then they have these people they call repo agents who show up at your house and work like Rent a Center would do. Not that I know first hand but I know what RAC does.Anyway, this guy shows up at his house, his job, his relatives, and friends. He is polite and just asks for the money. Due to privacy laws, he only indentifys himself to my friend. To others, he just says he is lookoing for him and its an attempt to collect a debt.My friend is starting to get real annoyed. He told him he would call the cops. The guy told him he is allowed to pursue the debt and he can stop his visits by either settling the debt or writing a cease a desist letter. He said though if he write sthe letter, then an attorney will contact you. If you ignore him, then they file in court. My friend checked up and it seems there are a lot of very recent files from this company filed in small claims and civil court so the guy is not kidding. What ever happened to calling someone on the phone then ignoring them then after 7 years it disappears??I mean, whats with these new tactics? This guy is sometimes sitting next to his car when he gets out of work. WTF FYI The gentle just indentifys himself and tells my friend its an attempt to collect the debt. He always has a copy of the verified debt and the contract he signed at the hospital. If my friend tells him to leave, the man does leave quietly. The guy doesn't start any trouble and is always professional but I mean, he is very persistent. Sometimes, everyday....My question is.. How would you handle this and what is your opinion about these new tactics?
Bill collectors- collections agencies- I would like to know what I can say that will convince you that I reall
Don't have the money this month. All of my bills are medical because I have no insurance. I only go to the doctor if it is extremely urgent. I am up to my eyeballs in medical debt. Do these people have any compassion??
Do you ever receive collection agency calls for your deceased spouse?
My husband has been dead for five years. About once a month I receive phone calls from collection agencies looking for a person with the same name for debts from the past year or so. Some call repeatedly, some are very rude, some actually have called me a liar when I tell them they have the wrong person. How do you make these calls stop? Do they ever stop. The same agency has called me twice this morning, and it's only 10 30 a.m.Skippy Rhumba Girl has been extremely nice. I'm not the one calling someone a liar and calling over and over again.I am on the Do Not Call list. I don't think it applies to collection agencies anyway. I had a nose job. It's still swollen. Moe these guys call and hang up over and over again. I've been screening calls also, and they never leave messages. I've kept track of the numbers over the years, that's how I know who they are. I suppose I will have to change my number. I hate that. I've had the same number for over 20 years.Island Hopper they don't seem to believe me. 2nd part of your answer Huh?
